Label: Godz ov War Productions / Release date: 26th January 2024
Another piece of old ‘thrash’ landed on my doorstep recently, and it’s another interesting release from Polish extreme metal label, Godz ov War Productions. Me, calling it a piece of ‘thrash’, should not be considered as an insult but rather a compliment. Thus, we are dealing here with Drunk Thrasher, one-man Polish project destined to make ‘primitive alcoholic necro thrash’. Instigator is one man responsible for all the drums, guitars, bass & vocals.
Running Womit is Drunk Thrasher’s the 5-songs EP with following tracklist:
1. Thrashrust
2. Raining Vomit
3. Masturbation on the Tomb
4. The Poisoning
5. Drunk Thrashers Attack
For his first EP, Drunk Thrasher performs five tracks that are full of surprises, but all delivered on the nasty, maniacal and intoxicating side of thrash metal. This implies the caustic and unpleasant vocals, simple yet memorable nasty riffs, and pulsating & hellish drums, all delivered at the relentless and high-speed thrash/speed metal.
The highlight of the EP for me is the commanding and marching fast sonic attack called, “The Poisoning”, mostly due to its insanely aggressive and venoumous appeal, but also due to the blistering work on bass and drums. The atmosphere throughout Running Womit is sinister, and one that appeals mostly to the worshippers of an anarchistic and unpolished thrash/speed/death metal. The only problem I have with this release is its sound production. I don’t underestimate the value of unrefined, raw and dirty thrash sound, but I feel as it lacks a bit of punch and more edge to it. Furthermore the bass is hard of hearing and almost unnotable (with an exception of the aforementioned song “The Poisoning”), or at least I wish I could hear it more in the final adjustments and tuning of the sound.
Of minor issues, I will give myself a freedom to criticise the cover art. Frankly, it looks a bit lazy and not really representative of the music we can hear on Running Womit disc. On the other hand, the booklet proudly states; ‘primitive alcoholic necro thrash metal’ – and that is exactly what you can expect to hear on this five-tracker EP from Drunk Thrasher.
In conclusion; although relatively short, Running Womit is designed to break your neck as a result of serious headbanging. Definitely another opus welcomed to my collection of thrash metal releases. Now I hope that a full-length album to get released by this drunken Polish thrasher in a near future. Recommended for fans of old-school speed thrash metal in the vein of Sodom, Celtic Frost, Morbid Saint, Sadus, Razor, (early) Kreator, Bathory etc.
