Another album released which came out a year and a half ago?! However, it should not prevent me from writing a few words about Burning The Bastards. Behind this moniker is just one man, a Swedish guy – Jonny Pettersson (all instruments & vocals).

Sinister Rhythms is the title for his eight-tracker album, released via Mexican-based label, ‘Iron, Blood and Death Corporation’. Sinister Rhythms contains eight songs of pure death’n’roll. In other words; this album is a tribute to the almighty Motörhead.

As briefly mentioned above, Jonny Pettersson, delivers excellent performances with enoyable growling and grunting vocals, powerful hooks, thick guitar tone, catchy and pounding drum patterns, and the bass that is supporting of the drums while establishing the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of each of the eight songs presented here. Apart from the aforementioned Motörhead-style death’n’roll, one can hear some crust, D-beat and thrash rhythm patterns in the overall sound.

Sinister Rhythms is a fast-paced and action packed 28 minutes long album with simplistic, yet very effective songwriting. Due to the short nature of the album, and because of so much action going on here, I had to give it two more spins, that’s how much I enjoyed this record.

Mixed and mastered at ‘Unbound Studio’ (Stockholm), the production of this album is tight, energetic, massive and well balanced. Artwork is also the work of Jonny Pettersson, while the logo is crated by Håkan Stuvemark.

Although Jonny Pettersson & Burning The Bastards is not bringing anything new to the table, this is a solid and skilfully carried out album which has got everything that any headbanger (especially fans of Motörhead) will recognize the full worth of, and enjoy it more than once. Sinister Rhythms is a solid ‘nostalgia trip’ to the classic era of this kind of music. I appreciate the fact that Jonny Pettersson keeps the metal flame burning!
