Doing reviews for almost 25 years I’m used to receive different promo packages, making me exited each time, especially when it comes from the overseas. Still, I never expected to receive a big package from USA containing a Bible!? After initial shock I found out that the contents of this package are not that of an actual ‘Holy Bible’, but that of a mock ‘Bible’, a press kit box for the California-based band, Three Sixes. Included in the box is a cover letter, band’s biography, fact sheet, mini poster and photo, as well as a few stickers, mask and gaiter along with their newest full-length album entitled Call Me the Devil.
Lineup’s containing following three members; Damien (vocals), Killswitch (guitars, bass & backing vocals) and Blake/John Cross (drums & programming), while this latest record consists of following twelve tracks.
Tracklist:
1. IndoctriNation
2. Welcome To The New World Order
3. Reject Control
4. They
5. Call Me The Devil
6. Where Evil Lies
7. Anticipating Death
8. Watching The God King Bleed
9. Sheol
10. Unflawed
11. Anti-theist
12. All In God’s Name
“I’ll sell your soul, to give you hope…” – words that resonate with current global tensions, stemming from geopolitical conflicts, economic instability, climate change debate, relevance of social issues and media-influenced censorship. All of which have been captured as a concept story on Call Me the Devil. Worth mentioning, Three Sixes honors bassist Johnny Cardenas, who passed away recently following a lengthy illness, with their determination to move forward and effect change.
The overall sound on Call Me the Devil is aggressive, heavy, energetic, intense and intricate – featuring crushing guitars, memorable and bludgeoning riffs, powerful and pummeling drums and searing, rasp and fierce vocals. The whole album is cohesive and listenable, with its natural flow, but if I’m to pick a couple of standout tracks then I’ll go with “New World Welcome to the New World Order” due to its hard-hitting and ferocious nature, some catchy hooks, and this almost chaotic energy which carries the message well. Another fascinating song is “Anticipating Death” – mostly due to the fact that it’s solid and engaging track, showcasing the band’s modern metal approach. Production is complete and with – with excellent flow – mixed by Blake Chadwick and the band, mastered by Maor Applebaum – known for Faith No More and Sepultura.
Call Me the Devil is a twisted, fun and entartaining journey that sees the band pushing boundaries and showcasing the band’s growth into a significant force. They successfully blend the elements from thrash, groove, industrial and hardcore, and as such this album is highly recommeded for fans of Rammstein, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Godhead, OOMPH!, Dope, Wage War, Prong and similar industrial/thrash/hardcore acts.
Bear in mind that Call Me the Devil is not only an album that will appeal to thrash and industrial metal fans, as it’s suitable for anyone who appreciates cleverly assembled and flawlessly performed music.
