Label: Revenge of the Bat Records / Release date: 26th May 2026
Hypnosaur’s sophomore album, Afterlife, was independently released on May 26, 2026, as a limited vinyl and CD edition. Comprised of members Bartosz, Michał, Farf, and Marcin, the Warsaw-based quartet delivers a musical style that can best be described as a cosmic brand of rock ‘n’ roll, effortlessly fusing hard rock, stoner rock, and psychedelia. Their diverse approach offers a dynamic blend of vintage heavy rock, classic melodies, infectious hooks, massive choruses, and an occult swagger, all tied together by surprisingly cohesive structures.
The 9-track, 40-minute record kicks off with the incredibly catchy opener and title track, “Afterlife”. It transitions smoothly into the synth-driven fireball that is “Lieflower” before continuing its slow, atmospheric buildup through “Reality-141” and the humorous “Look at the Balls”. The momentum shifts rapidly with “Danger”—a brief, two-minute ride that stands out as perhaps the most explicitly “metal” track on the album. This intensity continues into “Hardwired”, a powerful song that employs a hollow, hallowed atmosphere to sound massive. “World of Insanity” follows as a fast-paced, noisy heavy rock anthem which, alongside “Danger”, represents one of the most aggressive, forward-moving moments on the record. The penultimate track, “Alone”, is the album’s longest cut; it begins with lush, atmospheric synth work before progressing into a much fiercer territory, defined by grunting and growling vocal deliveries. Finally, “Into the Sun” serves as the grand finale, featuring crisp riffs, clear vocals, and a clean, loud finish courtesy of its modern production style.
Audio for the album was recorded and mixed at ‘Sound of Records Studio’ by Haldor Grünberg of Satanic Audio. On Afterlife, the band intentionally trades traditional lo-fi stoner rock norms for studio clarity, showcasing crisp instrument separation and forward-placed vocals. The resulting mix is polished and energetic, making the entire record a dangerously addictive affair. This production represents a major step forward for the band when compared to their 2022 debut, Doomsday, replacing fuzzy, buried mixing with sharp modern definition.
Overall, Afterlife is an incredibly enjoyable album packed with great vibes, killer synths, and striking cover art. The illustration, created by Rafał Wechterowicz of Too Many Skulls, goes beyond standard fantasy and interdimensional creatures by secretly hiding the band’s real-world dogs: Diuk, Tobi, Ginny, and Marcinek.
With this second full-length effort, Hypnosaur continues to prove they are one of the most exciting and unpredictable modern rock bands around. For further details on their recent activities or to purchase the limited vinyl/CD release, visit their official Facebook and Bandcamp pages.
