Conquest Icon is not the most productive band on the planet, as it’s been now ten years since their debut Hellspire was released. For those of you who’re still unfamiliar with this band, I can briefly say that Conquest Icon are Poland-based death metal quintet.

Ten years after the release of the aforementioned debut, the band has released this 10-tracker, Empire Of The Worm album via Godz Ov War Productions. What has happened to their sound meanwhile? Apart from recruiting a new vocalist, not much really, as they’re still playing their trademark death metal, but one can obviously hear that they’ve developed their sound, and they’ve matured as musicians. Furthermore, one can hear additional thrash and black metal sounds, which add more diversity to their sound.

The second album Empire Of The Worm, contains really everything one would expect from a death metal combo like Conquest Icon! Thus, one can hear grinding, thundering chainsaw, crushing and punishing riffing, blasting beats and equally punishing bass-lines, and on top of that some aggressive and insisting growling vocals. Meanwhile, it is not entirely about extreme aggression and brutality, as sometimes the guys slow things down a bit, like in the brilliant opening of a song called “Deathlike Shadows Rising”.

Thing, which I think I like the most about Empire Of The Worm is its brutal, vicious and savage atmopshere and their uncompromising attitude. The production is harsh, dirty, bleak and dark. My favourite tracks from the album are “Sacrificial Circle” and a self-titled monster track, “Empire Of The Worm” (listen below).

Conquest Icon shows no mercy nor any sign of slowing down with the release of Empire Of The Worm. Actually, it is punchier, more aggressive and convincing than its predecessor! If you like your extreme metal played and delivered with passion, and esp. if you worship acts as Incantation, Immolation, Malevolent Creation, Bolt Thrower, Deicide etc. then you should definitely listen to Empire Of The Worm.
