Bastardogs – a moniker that fits these Genova (Italy) natives very well. The band is one of many Italian bands who represent a revival or a new wave of glam rock. No Pain No Gain is their new (debut full-length) 10-tracker record where they fuse sounds of NWOBHM with some classic glam/sleaze rock elements. In other words; it is heavy, melodic and energetic material to listen to.

On the other hand there’s no evolution nor ground-breaking things to be heard here, as one feels like have heard it thousands of times before. Nevertheless, all the single ingredients when put together make a great collection of catchy tunes here. Heavy and seductive rock vocals, stellar riffing, flashy guitar licks, dirty and grimy drums and lyrics dealing with sex, fun, love, speed and similar typical glam themes are just some of the things you can hear on this particular opus.

Despite of the lack of originality and innovativeness, I find No Pain No Gain to be a refreshing and fine piece of glam rock that will please most fans of the genre. This is not just a music for dudes stuck in the 80’s (although Bastardogs want to celebrate the music from the ’80s with this record), on a contrary I would recommended it for all rock lovers and esp. those into W.A.S.P., Mötley Crüe, Poison, Motorhead and similar giants.
