Towards Hellfire - Inquisitors Of Blasphemy - 70%

Founded in 2021, Towards Hellfire is a three-piece black/death metal band from Poznań, Poland. Inquisitors Of Blasphemy is the moniker for Towards Hellfire’s second full-length shot. It comes three years after its debut predecessor, Death Upon The Holy Throne.

Inquisitors Of Blasphemy is composed of eight tracks and playing time of app. forty minutes. It’s been released through Putrid Cult label, and the track-list goes like this:

1. Escape to the Core of Hell / Step Forward to Madness
2. Death’s Eternal Reign
3. Vengeance Out of Hell
4. Inquisitors of Blasphemy
5. Blessed by War
6. Devoted to Damnation
7. Bow to the Realm of Evil
8. In Opposition of Light

From the very first sounds of the opening track “Escape to the Core of Hell / Step Forward to Madness”, it already becomes clear that the band is further deveoping the style started on the debut album. One can supplement and add, that the’re unleashing another hellfire storm that is a bit stronger, punchier and even more refined and settled in the old Swedish scene, than the case was with its predecessor.

As shown before; there are eight tracks here, which are full of powerful and cutting riffs, massive accelerations and crushing slowdowns as exemplified in “Blessed by War”. At same other parts of the record, there’re some catchier and more clever melodies and catchy parts. Drum parts are intense and powerful, bass is raw and with fast lines, while vocals are growling and cutting edge. It’s also an atmospheric and dark record, especially when talking of the introduction to the aforementioned “Escape to the Core of Hell / Step Forward to Madness” opener.

There are some good musical ideas in this and I think Towards Hellfire deserve great credit for persistence and determination. This group of musicians proudly carries the banner of devilish melodic black metal, serving us a more than a good album with Inquisitors Of Blasphemy. Finally, a word about the production, Inquisitors Of Blasphemy sounds very good. The overall sound is massive, and I like how this album came out.

If this trio from Poznań, made their name known for wider metal masses with the Death Upon The Holy Throne, thanks to the release of Inquisitors of Blasphemy, they’ll undoubtedly further consolidate its position on the Polish black/death metal scene. This uncompromising, aggressive, cacophonous and chaotic, sophomore record is especially recommended for worshippers of Enthroned, Marduk, Necrophobic, Dark Funeral, Dissection, Sacramentum and similar (mainly Swedish) scene giants.
