    Von Mollestein – Vuistenregen - 80%

Von Mollestein is the first band to be featured on these pages that comes from Dutch city of Nijmegen. It’s partly due to the fact that these guys were deeply hidden in the underground up until now at least. They started as an Aggrotech duo in 2019, and two years later they became a trio. Current line-up of the band looks like this; Mr. Cooger (vocals), Dunkelwalt Immerkalt (guitar) and Dr. West (bass). This addition to band’s line-up is not the only thing that changed back in 2021, as the band (now a trio) changed their style to black metal with electronic and industrial elements.

Despite of their short career, they already have two albums under their belt, and the third one released just recently by the band itself. Third full-length from this hard-hitting trio from The Netherlands is entitled Vuistenregen. It consists of 10 mid-length tracks of what has been labelled as ‘black metal with electronic and industrial elements’.

Tracklist:

1. Walpurgisnacht
2. Luk-Krok
3. Kinderen van het Moeras
4. Natuurdoders
5. Brujah
6. Annelies
7. Exhibition of Filth
8. Daar waar het Licht Sterft
9. Nachtwandelaar
10. Wees Stil als het Vuur Spreekt

As seen above, all the lyrics are in their native Dutch, and the lyrical themes are about subjects of dark poetry/litterature, horror, cenobites, serial killers etc. Put differently; the whole package of Vuistenregen is rather terrifying. Their style of playing is industrial black metal with copious amounts of electronic beats, lots of synths, and of course the use of a drum machine. One thing becomes immediately clear, Von Mollestein doesn’t slow down on this album, where the opposite is case with Vuistenregen. This is made clear immediately on album opener β€œWalpurgisnacht” where we get bombarded by this massive sonic storm provided by some high-pitched screaming vocals, numerous amount of dissonant black metal riffs, and uncompromising drum machines. Two of my favorites are a deliciously venomous and filthy β€œNatuurdoders” (listen below), and β€œAnnelies” – mainly because of the theme. Finally; β€œNachtwandelaar” is also another tastefully served, nuanced and overwhelming song, changing between slow and fast parts.

The overall production sounds tight and one that serves each individual track. The sound is not as chaotic nor disordered as one would expect from this type of musical blend. With Vuistenregen the gentlemen from The Netherlands have delivered a very fine piece of work that is worth your attention!

This black/industrial/horror metal trio is heavy on the shock factor, and I can’t wait to hear more from them in the near future. I can’t speak yet about its two predecessors, but I can tell that Vuistenregen is a very fine album, recommended for worshippers of horrifying, terrifying, fast and unapologetic mix of black & industrial metal.
