Label: Godz Ov War Productions / Release date: 26th January 2024
I believe it is safe to say that Enthrone Death is one of the older albums to get featured on these pages, since it was at first released back in 2024 by Godz Ov War Productions. Still, I think you deserve to get introduced to this Polish duo going under the moniker of SoulCarrion.
Line-up of the band in time of recording of Enthrone Death was comprised of Michał (guitars & bass) and Greg (guitar solos), while featuring three guest musicians – Mateusz Sibila (vocals session), Vesper Locust (vocals quest track 3) and Darek Młody (drums session) also helped in creating the second full-length from this death metal combo from Poland.
Enthrone Death features following eight tracks:
1. Cage of Nothingness
2. Night Ceremony
3. Enthrone Death
4. Infernal Agony
5. Oblivion
6. Revenge is Mine
7. Deathoskullum
8. World of Putridity
On their sophomore album SoulCarrion delivers a 30-minute long sonic assault of a vicious, raw and old-school atmospheric death metal. The album’s eight songs feature more or less heavy and down-tuned riffing, predominantly guttural and echoing vocals, and a mix of fast drum blast-beats and some slower, doom-laden bass passages – laying the foundation for their sound involving all these tracking core elements of a traditional death metal. Some of my favourites are; the opening “Cage of Nothingness” and “Deathoskullum” mainly due to their, atmospheric and intense nature, and the second track called “Night Ceremony” featuring a very exceptional drumming.
The production is balanced, yet incredibly heavy, while ensuring all elements are clear despite the raw, intense sound. Cover art and layout is created by Maciej Kamuda Art, perfectly capturing the visceral, chaotic, and often horrific nature of band’s music, serving as a visual extension of their sonic aggression. Equally suitable and representative logo is the work of Paweł Pawłowski Illustration.
SoulCarrion is without doubt a band with big potential, but also one which has to work more on developing their own musical ideas, creating more coherent and own trademark sound. Despite the fact that Enthrone Death is short record, but I would say that each of the eight songs presented here is meaty enough to leave the listener satisfied. Still, Enthrone Death is highly recommended for fans of the genre and the likes of Incantation, Immolation, Witch Vomit, Morbid Angel, Dismember, Vomitory and other enthusiasts of traditional/classic death metal.
