Label: Gidz Ov War / Release Date: 17th October 2025
Frightful is a Polish quartet that has evolved quite a bit since their inception back in 2016 – Their current musical approach seems to be a Death/Thrash Metal hybrid, focusing on the lyrical themes of death, anti-religion and philosophy. And while the lyrics have been consistent since their creation, todays subject Born After Astral Rites, are clearly still cemented heavily into their Grindcore roots. Something that is rather unsurprising, since the Compilation Album is made out of tracks from the bands first two Eps as well as their lone Demo – All of which precedes both of their Full-length records.
All in all, Born After Astral Rites is a good plasce to start if you, like me, are unfamiliar with the band. It contains nearly all of their previously released songs (prior to the Full-lengths, naturally), neatly combined into a single release – And they even threw in a cover of the Dissection track ”Son Of The Mourning” as an added treat.
All in all, this adds up to seven tracks with a runtime of 23-and-a-half minutes of fast-paced aggression, not unlike Merciless and Sadus; Perhaps even a hint of Vader.
Definitely a decent teaser for what was to come.
