Corpus Offal is the surviving core from the now-split underground death horde from Texas called Cerebral Rot. Under the old name they released two releases, Odious Descent into Decay and Excretion of Mortality, both receiving nice feedback and almost sent shock waves through the underground death metal scene. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, the band decided to split, only to re-emerge shortly after under the name of Corpus Offal. Current line-up of the band now features; Ian Schwab (guitar and vocals), Clyle Lindstrom (guitar), Jason Sacks (bass) and Jesse Shreibman (drums).

After two spins I think I can hear clear references to the old work with Cerebral Rot. In my view, Corpus Offal is the natural progression of Excretion Of Mortality. The band’s debut clocks in at just under fifty minutes, where one can hear numerous fast accelerations, slow down breaks, pulverizing guitars, sick and growling vocals, gut-churning and excellent baselines, and the pummeling drums with the effective pacing. Corpus Offal is a crushing collection of old school death metal, or a sonic slaughterhouse where you’re the carcass.

Karina Monzon is responsible for this monstrous cover art, where she got the right spirit behind the album. The production, work of Billy Anderson, is heavy and sharp where each instrument has enough toxic air to breathe and deeply inhale this intriguing and punishing and this sort of a ‘bizarre’, yet crushing, heavy and raw death metal.

Corpus Offal do not offer anything innovative or ground-breaking, but they have the ability to produce solid and well-played work, which is also the case with this self-titled debut long-player. Thus, everyone who enjoyed Cerebral Rot will not be disappointed with this new seven-tracker Corpus Offal.

Corpus Offal’s self-titled debut is dedicated to fans of old-school and death-grind metal and for fans of the likes of Cerebral Rot, Fetid, Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Immolation, Disgorge, Funebre, Cianide, Goatlord etc.

Make sure to check the label 20 Buck Spin at their bandcamp, where you also find numerous other death metal releases.
