    Blood Red Throne – Siltskin - 80%

Norwegian death metal veteran kings Blood Red Throne have been around for almost three decades, having eleven albums under their belt, prior to the release of the most recent one entitled Siltskin. With the release of their 12th studio album, released through Soulseller Records, this hard-hitting quintet shows that they’re still going strong. This latest opus – Siltskin consists of following nine tracks:

1. Scraping Out The Cartilage
2. Beneath The Means
3. Husk In The Grain
4. Necrolysis
5. Anodyne Rust
6. Vestigial Remnants
7. Vermicular Heritage
8. On These Bones
9. Marrow Of The Earth

First thing notable is that Siltskin appears to be heavier, faster, more melodic yet more powerful than ever before. Overall, Siltskin still has this an distinct Blood Red Throne trademark sound to it!
The bass work is exceptionally powerful and crunchy, providing a strong foundation for the technical, yet brutal, guitar work. While rooted in old-school death metal, it incorporates numerous melodic guitar leads and atmospheric moments. Drumming is modest yet deadly, while the vocals are ranging from low guttural growls to blackened screams, incorporating some screams, growls, pig squeals and breakdowns.

The album is having a massive and polished production with refined and mature songwriting that blends brutal death metal with increased melodic & atmospheric elements. I’m having three tracks that I consider to be key tracks on Siltskin. First one worth mentioning is the bastardly opening title-track, “Scraping Out The Cartilage” which not only sets the tone for the rest of the 45 minutes long record, as it alongside “Anodyne Rust” is recognizable for its intense and riff-driven violent approach. Next great song is “Necrolysis” – a track which develops into a full on progressive masterpiece. Finally, as album closer, “Marrow Of The Earth” begins with slower and doomier parts, with before it dissolves into intense blasts, ending this record on a high note.

Siltskin was mixed/mastered by Ronnie Björnström at ‘ Bjornstromsound’ while the artwork created by Giannis Nakos of ‘Remedy Art Design’ – featuring a dark, futuristic and old-school style similar to their previous 2024 release, Nonagon.

Without doubt, Siltskin maintains the band’s high standards of consistency, showcasing ‘youthful fury & rage’ despite being their twelfth studio album. In other words; Siltskin is an album that will drive you insane! Especially recommended for fans of the band, but also the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Vomitory, Paganizer, Suffocation, Grave and similar old-school death metal scene giants.
