Label: Innerstrength Records / Release date: 8th May 2026
Released on May 8, 2026, Divid is the fourth full-length album by the French metallic hardcore band operating under the moniker Beyond the Styx. Touring Europe since 2011 (MMXI), the quintet has unleashed chaos at over 350 shows. According to the band, Beyond the Styx “draws its inspiration from a musical universe that reflects our world: dark and violent.”
Divid is a politically charged, 10-track album where this French hardcore force once again manifests a dark, violent sonic universe at the crossroads of hardcore, punk, thrash, and death metal. The band delivers another fierce, 26-minute blast of aggressive intensity, crushing breakdowns, and unhinged, abrasive vocals.
Lyrically, the band digs into a world “where inherited hatred, social indifference, war, environmental collapse, and personal breakdown feed an endless cycle of division.” The best example of this approach is the song “Deadlock V” (watch the official video at the end of this review)—an uncompromising protest song that directly condemns Western political silence and indifference regarding the conflict in Gaza. Sonically and instrumentally, the track relies on incredibly beefy, Swedish-influenced death metal guitar tones laid over hyper-technical riffing patterns. The song successfully concludes a thematic triptych of amnesia, war, and revenge, culminating in the revelation of Divid.
Among other tracks that stand out as clear highlights of Divid, “Dust Off” serves as the album’s introductory track and standalone single, setting an explosive, high-pressure tone for the rest of the record. Meanwhile, the third song, “Never Ending War,” serves as a massive focal point that highlights the band’s brutal and intense blend of hardcore punk, thrash, and heavy breakdowns.
Produced by Daan Nieboer at Cornerstone Audio, the album features a sharp, snarling, and punchy sound. It delivers a caustic, abrasive fury that is perfectly balanced by a heavy, mechanical, and brooding darkness. The record maintains a dominant hardcore stance while sounding massive enough to carry the weight of its death and thrash metal crossover influences.
The artwork was designed by Hafidz Judin, who also collaborated with the band on their video visuals. The visual style closely aligns with the album’s core themes of fracture, societal pressure, identity collision, and permanent conflict, perfectly mirroring the raw, aggressive, and dark sonic tension found throughout the 10 tracks.
In summary, Divid is a stellar upgrade and continuation of their previous work, such as 2022’s Sentence. The sharpened production and unrelenting delivery make it a gripping; high impact listen from start to finish. Divid is an absolute powder keg sitting at the crossroads of hardcore, punk, thrash, and death metal. It fuses the raw, blistering velocity of thrash and crust punk with the suffocating, down-tuned weight of old-school death metal. Driven by relentless hardcore aggression and bone-snapping breakdowns, it is an essential, chaotic listen for fans of heavy music.
