A Liquid Landscape – Rogue Planet

Atmospheric alternative and progressive rock band A Liquid Landscape is comprised of the following musicians: Niels van Dam (guitar), Robert van Dam (bass), Fons Herder (vocals and guitar), and Coen Speelman (drums). Released on May 29, 2026, via Glassville Music, Rogue Planet is the third full-length album by the Dutch quartet, and their first release following a nearly decade-long hiatus.

Spanning 41 minutes across just four tracks, Rogue Planet delivers a guitar-driven, triumphant, and dreamy blend of art rock, post-rock, prog rock, and subtle grunge elements. The overall sonic profile is highly guitar-centric, featuring raw fretwork, dynamic builds, and delicate vocals that eventually erupt into heavy, cinematic, and emotional walls of sound. The record’s greatest strength lies in its concept. Inspired by a rogue planet drifting freely in space, the album uses celestial isolation as a metaphor for the modern human condition, masterfully balancing existential drift with fragile hope. In other words, it highlights how disconnected people can feel today despite having the entire world digitally accessible.

With only four songs on the tracklist, choosing highlights is simple, but the powerful, Porcupine Tree-esque opener “Few and Far Between (Part 1)” and the sweeping, nine-minute epic closer “Virgo Calling” stand out as the two tracks that best represent the band’s sonic universe.

The multi-year production process gave the band the necessary time to mature as musicians, upgrade their gear, refine their arrangements, and incorporate raw guitar sounds, all while achieving their first-ever vinyl release. The final product captures a punchier, more professional, and highly cohesive sonic vision.
