There’s a few people whom I’ve promised a review earlier this year, but due some personal issues I can first leave up to my promise and deliver a review now. One of those is Bitume Prods who’ve been kind to send me this Digisleeve CD with Reflecting the Light for further examination.

Who are Reflecting the Light then? It’s an instrumental Post-Metal & Post-Black Metal project, originally created during the summer of 2016 by Adz. He’s responsible for all composing, recording and all the instruments. It’s composed and produced between 2016 and 2018, where it’s previously self-released on March 2019, but now re-issued via the aforementioned Bitume Prods.

Reflecting the Light is a journey to the depths of space, and a demanding journey through absorbing sounds with an experimental approach and atmospheric setting. In other words; in this almost 40 minutes album, there are five tracks which mix-up Post-Metal, Black Metal, ambient elements, with a lot of reverbs. Tracks are simply entitled “I”, “II”, “III”, “IV” and “V”. At first one would think it’s all atmospheric and distant/desolate, but many metallic assaults are incorporated in the sound of Reflecting the Light and they’re nicely blended together with those predominant atmospheric & synth-laden passages.

This is an instrumental album which tastefully combines sharp and heavy passages with more calm and atmospheric moments where the composer seeks to immerse you in the middle of emptiness and make you experience intense sensations. The strength of this five-tracker release is its varied songwriting capability and up-to-date production that perfectly suits this kind of music.

Esp. Recommended for fans of bands like Chaos Moon, Neurosis, Spectral Lore, Isis or Cult Of Luna. Reflecting the Light is released on CD format and is available on Bandcamp or you can just listen to the whole material at the link below.
