Mòr - Hear The Hour Nearing! - 82%

Mòr is a French Black Metal duo, one that has been around and somewhat active at least since 2014 – As far as releases are concerned, their debut happened the next year where a Demo was released. Then, seven years later a Live Album (making them the first band I have ever come across to release a live performance on physical media prior to releasing a Full-length album). And now, in about two days’ time as of time of writing, their first full record is set to hit store selves (proverbially at least, in this mostly digital day and age, even if Hear The Hour Nearing! will thankfully also be seeing a physical release).

At present it has been revealed to contain nine tracks overall, adding up to a combined runtime of nearly forty-four minutes. As for the sound, it can be quite succinctly attributed many of the adjectives that I have come to love and expect from the French Black Metal stage: Immersive, atmospheric to an extent, powerful in its execution and generally very fiesty for a lack of a better word.

I get the sense that Mòr in many ways is a side project that has been kept on a side burner through most (if not all) of the bands existance, primarily due to the relatively low amount of content the band has released but somewhat backed up by both members of the band being very prominent in other Black Metal projects (such as Iffernet, Tresspasser and Telümehtår whom they do share a commonality with). And while that has the obvious drawback of resulting in a very long waiting period between releases, it also means that the band members themselves can take their time to implement and hone the sound and lyrics that they strive for, returning to the moniker whenever applicable. And, as the song “Sulfur” (linked below) proves, this is proving to be a very effective strategy for them. The music is engaging as well as self-contained per song, making it easy to pick up but hard to put back down.

Most certainly a recommendation from me – Not that this should come as any surprise at this point, being the admitted Francofile I have apparently become.
