    Lilla Veneda - Primordial Movements - 80%

Lilla Veneda is an extreme metal band from Wrocław, Poland. The band took the name from one of the most famous Polish romantic tragedies ‘Lilla Weneda’ written by Juliusz Slowacki. Now, this unholy Polish trio, initiated and founded in 2009, releases Primordial Movements, their new self-released studio album.

On Primordial Movements lyrical content deals with subjects of a science, philosophy and poetry, beaing quite diverse, varied, interesting and pretty unusual for a death/black metal band. In other words; they are never sticking to genre norms as this different approach to the song-writing has almost become band’s DNA; musically and lyrically always being a little different, but this innovativeness comes as a natural evolution of the band for the last 15 years. It’s also the biggest strength of their new effort, as they always deliver a few surprises along the way, in terms of the structure of the individual songs.

Primordial Movements begins in raw black and death metal, which finds its climax in technically demanding blackened death, and eventually rushes to the edge of progressive black/death metal. My favorite tracks of the album are; the first single named “Colossi” (see the official lyric-video below), mainly due to its majestic approach and this latent and lethal aggression. Another superb track is the following one called “Immortal Vision of Chaos”, due to a more moderate yet extremely catchy rhythm section. The album closes with impressive “Pytasz Co W Moim Zyciu”, which serves as a perfect album closer, due to some haunting tones, striking vocals (in Polish), and all the instruments at the top of their game.

Once again band used the services of Przemysław Nowak from ‘Impressive-Art Studio’ (Asgaard, Odraza, Outre). Meanwhile, this beautiful and eye-catching cover artwork & revolutionary 20-page booklet is done by Polish artist Anna Sobczak (Vader & Voidfire). Production is massive ‘ brick wall’ & delicate, achieving the necessary intensity and diversity in their sound.

Listening to Primordial Movements was an enjoyable experience, and I can highly recommend it for fans of; Hath, Behemoth, The Negative Bias, Septicflesh, Decapitated, Bleed from Within and similar extreme metal acts.
