Poland is mostly known for its strong extreme metal scene, but this time we have something different coming out from Poland. Doomster Reich is a five piece psychedelic & doom metal band from Łódź, Poland. In the time of recording of their latest material, the line-up of the band looked as following; Radek (bass), Rasz (drums, vocals & guitars), Markiz (guitars), Michał (drums) and Mlody (eyboards & sound effects).

In 2014 they released their debut full-length The League for Mental Distillation, then a couple of EPs followed, before the release of their sophomore 2017 full-length, Drug Magick. Already next year another long-player saw daylight, a 2018 How High Fly the Vultures. Now we come to this 2022 offering entitled, Blessed Beyond Morality.

Band’s fourth full-length album Blessed Beyond Morality consists of only five tracks. These are obviously quite lengthy (each of the five compositions lasts over 10 minutes!) knowing that we are dealing here with this slow-paced, groovy, druggy and stoner/doom metal, where the songs are usually a bit longer.

Throughout an hour long ride on Blessed Beyond Morality the band delivers some of the most ground-breaking and cylindrical riffs, I’ve heard in a very long time. To times they accelerate (increasing in tempo) a bit, but most of the time it’s slow-paced emotional and psychedelic doom. The bass is pulsating and catchy, with some thunderous bass notes at the same time. Drums/percussion is driving, authentic and at times frantic, accelerating pace and then slowing down when necessary. Vocals are harsh, raw and sounds as if alcohol-drained/whiskey soaked. Finally, keys and sound effects are there to spice things up a bit, creating some nice, warm and emotional parts.

Finally I have to comment the production job; where they’ve done an amazing job, esp. with the drums, but also the guitar and bass sound rather superb. It fits perfectly with the mood of this record and the overall image of the band.

Due to my previous knowledge of Doomster Reich’ catalog, I expected that this new work could be successful and interesting, but I must admit, with the release of Blessed Beyond Morality, they simply exceeded my expectations. Extremely satisfying, but also a quite demanding, hour awaits you in company with these Polish doom merchants. Recommended not only for fans of the band, but also for those curious about groovy, raw, stoner & psychedelic doom.
