Chilean-based Iron Blood and Death Corporation provided us with another high quality release. This time it’s with their countrymen from Deconsekrated. The band, which consists of; Gûl Evokator (vocals), Fides Naash (bass), Agorh Skullptor (guitars) and Rigor Mortis (drums), has released a 2-track demo in 2020 (which also appeared as a part of split CD a year later) and an one-track single in 2021 called “Thaumaturgvs”. All of a sudden they’ve now released their debut full-length entitled Ascension in the Altar of Condemned.

Ascension in the Altar of Condemned contains only seven (incl. the intro) tracks that are of a semi-length. From the very first opening sounds of “Intro (Invocation) there’s no doubt that Deconsekrated are here to provide a morbid, dark and brooding death metal assault of app. 29 minutes. To dig a bit deeper, I would say that their sound consists of some aggressive & down-tuned guitars accompanied by tremolo riffing. Furthermore, one can hear numerous blast-beats/pristine double-bass drumming, intimidating growling/chanting vocals, and finally some thick bass-lines providing these slower sections and laying a foundation and structure for the songs. All these ingredients are creating this very dramatic vibe, which has almost already became their trademark.

The over-all song-writing on Ascension in the Altar of Condemned is standard yet mature, dark and frightening at the same time. It’s perfectly exemplified in a track named “Spectral Rites” (this terrifying track can be heard below). Another stand-out track, and grand finale, is “Consumed By Emptiness”, due to its extra layers of raging and primeval darkness and evil atmosphere.

In terms of production it’s very brutal and sharp sound, definitely complementing all of the individual instruments. Another pro here is the stylistic consistency from one song to another. Ascension in the Altar of Condemned is the kind of death metal which suits my taste. It’s really easy to follow, not too complex and pretty listenable, having in mind that we are dealing with a piece of extreme and havoc death metal. Esp. recommended for fans of Morbid Angel, Incantation, Dead Congregation, Immolation, Cruciamentum and similar extreme death metal acts.

With the release of Ascension in the Altar of Condemned, Deconsekrated is yet another proof of diversity and energy of the South American scene, which has always been rich when it comes to extreme metal bands. The future looks bright for this death metal quartet, and I’m already looking forward to hearing what they will come up with next.
