Shades of Memories is the debut full-length album by the atmospheric/funeral doom metal band Where Innocence Died. The band was originally founded in Kielce (Poland) in 1992 under the moniker Nemorensis Rex. After the return from a long hiatus in 2021 the band changed their name to Where Innocence Died, now comprised of former Nemorensis Rex members Aleksandra (piano) and Danthe (guitar, bass & vocals), where they were joined by vocalist Adrian two years later. Apart from the trio, their latest opus features a whole bunch of guest musicians; Hrist (drums), Żywomiła (female vocals), Malina (violin), Roch (cello), Emilia (oboe) and Magdalena (fluteon).

The first fruit of their new configuration is a four tracker Shades Of Memories, released on October 31st 2025 by Godz Ov War Productions.

Tracklist:

The album with thirty four minutes of playing time is a dark and melancholic musical theater featuring rich and emotional instrumentation like the aforementioned violins, cellos, pianos and oboes. To describe this album in a few words is quite impossible, since I hear numerous elements from a funeral/doom/atmospheric/gothic and black metal. Principally, it’s more piece of musical theater rather than a piece of traditional metal music. It carries the listener away to a journey filled with darkness and melancholy, yet with few unexpected surprises along the way. The music features a mix of slow tempo, heavy riffs, and on tracks like “Innocence” some faster and more intense moments. Consequently, my favorite track from the album is “Innocence” (watch the official video below) due to its slow and depressive vibe, featuring piano, haunting female vocals, and poetic lyrics exploring themes of loss, existential doubt and fleeting beauty, but also due to its shifts towards more intense moments.

Lyrically, Shades of Memories explores themes of lost time, grief and shattered memories. The atmosphere is deeply melancholic, moody, dark and romantic, featuring sounds of rain and bells.
The album was recorded at ‘United Records Studio’, engineered, and mixed by Wojciech Niebelski, and produced by Wojciech Niebelski and Danthe. Production on Shades of Memories emphasizes vast, reverberant spaces, using long and minimalist compositions to create a melancholic, immersive and somber listening experience.

Only four tracks presented on Shades of Memories makes it a fairly brief listen, but it’s flawless, comprehensive and consistent from start to finish, leaving nothing to chance. Just close your eyes and let them take you on a short journey existence is entwined with illusion. The album is ideal for worshippers of slow, sorrowful and atmospheric music. In other words; Shades of Memories will appeal to anyone whose tastes veer towards the dark side and bands like My Duying Bride, Draconian, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Saturnus, Shape of Despair etc.
