The Danish band have made a name for blending the genres of metalcore and deathcore since their first EP release in 2011 titled Comedy/Tragedy, and this new EP really develops on their more evolved sound. The band consists of five members; Alexander Eriksen (Lead Vocals), Jakob Langvad (Rhythymn guitar), Mads Risbjerg (Lead Guitar), Christian Jensen (Bass and Backup Vocals) and Rasmus Rosenfeldt Hansen (Drums). Fractured Will will mark their 4th EP release sitting alongside two full length albums in their discography. The upcoming EP contains an exciting feature from the Dutch deathcore band Distant in the recently released single also titled “Fractured Will.”
The music in this EP moves like a bullet train; the violent and almost introspective tones keep coming consistently whilst listening through. I have to say the tracks mesh together very well and display some real songwriting ability around the modern deathcore sound.
The single “Fractured Will” has some really exciting vocals that shine in the song. What stood out to me were some of the more synth sounding atmospheric noises in the background at parts of the song which I think are being made on a guitar although it’s not something I’ve heard much elsewhere.
The other single which has been released – “Cold Resolve” features Left to Suffer an Atlanta, Georgia based deathcore band. The song has these piercing high screams that, in the more melodic vocal parts, remind me of a mix of early Suicide Silence and Cattle decapitations melodic harsh vocals.
The breakdowns in this EP absolutely do not disappoint, they do exactly what they’re meant to. They are face scrunching and rhythmically intriguing which is what we come to expect in the current state of modern deathcore.
The full sound of Fractured Will is intense whilst also being self reflective even without the meaningful lyrics Unseen Faith have managed to create a soundscape which really explores the complex balance of its violent sound with its introspective and hopeful tones. Every part of the band synergises nicely to deliver this EP; the range of vocals, the chuggy driven riffs and harmonic atmospheric sounds on the guitar, the bassists perfect accompaniment to the drumming and guitar, and the drummers dynamics and exciting rhythmic choices in the breakdowns. This definitely won’t be my last time listening to what I’d deem as a very enjoyable EP and would recommend it for a listen for sure.
