Label: Self released/Hard Life Promotion / Release date: 6th June 2025
Founded in 2013, Signs Of Algorithm is a Belgian metalcore comprised of Frederick Vanhille (vocals), Didier Vanassche (guitar), Kevin David (guitar) and Jonathan Dils (drums). The first thing I noticed about band’s career is not very high productivity, as it took them nine years to create this sophomore album, a follow-up to the debut Harbinger from 2016. Thus, their second full-length is entitled Sunchaser, and released back in June 2025. Another noticeable difference is that (unlike its predecessor released on ‘White Tower Records’) Sunchaser is an independent and self released product.
Sunchaser consists of the following eight ordinary tracks plus an intro.
01. Apotheosis
02. Heavenless
03. Sunchaser
04. Skincrawler
05. Digital Domination
06. First We Dream Then We Die
07. Memento
08. Beyond Constellations
09. We All Bury Our Sins
After three spins of Sunchaser I can say that the band delivers a dynamic mix of melodic, yet powerful metalcore, of ‘only’ 32 minutes of running time. All tracks are raw and aggressive, yet seamlessly balanced with atmospheric and melodic depth. Expressed differently; Sunchaser is a well balanced and most importantly an interesting and engaging album that never really trends of getting boring or repetitive.
Apart from numerous staccato riffs, a mix of aggressive, screaming and clean vocals, catchy and steady drums, the lyrical content is very interesting, as it paint a chilling vision of digital enslavement, addictive algorithms, and the loss of self in our tech-obsessed reality. My favourite tracks are “First We Dream Then We Die” (featuring Sven Herssens – Mantah) and the following emotional, convincing and catchy song named “Memento”. As a final point I’ll just mention the uncompromising, relentless and fresh album’s closer “We All Bury Our Sins”, ending the circle of the album on a high note, leaving the listener with a good feeling.
Sunchaser is an enjoyable, cleanly produced and powerfully mixed album that I’d recommend for fans of a modern/crushing mix of melodic death, metalcore with a slight nu-metal edge, and fans of the likes of Slaughter To Prevail, Born Of Osiris, Machine Head, August Burns Red, Whitechapel, Shadow of Intent and similar acts.
With the release of Sunchaser the guys have managed to make a successful comeback after their long (forced) hiatus. Meanwhile visit https://www.facebook.com/SignsOfAlgorithm and watch the official video for the aforementioned first single “First We Dream Then We Die” below.
