Resurrected – Perpetual

Resurrected has been an institution in the German death metal scene since its formation in 1993. It shows their sincere commitment to producing nothing but uncompromising, brutal death metal ever since! After releasing seven studio albums and several other releases, the band has just dropped their newest 10-track effort, titled Perpetual.

The band’s current line-up features two founding members, Chris Mieves (vocals) and Thomas Granzow (guitar), alongside Dennis Thiele (drums), Christoph Zeller (guitar), and Marius Baron (bass). As just mentioned, Testimony Records released this brutal German quintet’s eighth full-length album, entitled Perpetual, on April 10, 2026. The 10-track record (including a cover of the song “Infernal Desire” by Malevolent Creation) was recorded at ‘Soundlodge Studio’, blending the band’s trademark raw brutality with thrashy, old-school death metal grooves.

In my opinion, three stand-out tracks define the crushing energy of Perpetual. First is “Forever Damned,” a song that serves as the ultimate representation of the band’s signature style, featuring relentless blast beats, heavy double-bass drumming, technical riffs, and brutal vocal work. Another great track is the single “Sanity Is Lost” (a video clip for the album’s first single is available below), which delivers a crushing mid-tempo assault rooted deep in the old-school death metal tradition. It is driven by filthy grooves, dense riffing, and relentless heaviness. Meanwhile, the title track, “Perpetual” (clocking in at exactly 3 minutes and 32 seconds), is a concentrated dose of sonic violence. The song delivers a massive wall of filthy, dense guitar riffs and a punishing low-end groove that mirrors the rhythmic clanging of heavy machinery. Lastly, I would like to mention a faithful and high-energy cover of Malevolent Creation’s “Infernal Desire,” which brings the album to a close in unrelenting brutality. What all these songs have in common is proof that the band has gained immense experience over the last three decades (both in terms of songwriting and on stage), which is reflected in their technical proficiency as well as the powerful, absolutely crushing tracks.

The album’s dark and visceral cover artwork was created by Ivan S. Bragin of ‘Bragin Design’. The record was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jörg Uken at ‘Soundlodge Studio’ in Rhauderfehn, Germany. The front cover artwork for Perpetual features a dark, desolate, and heavily textured landscape that channels themes of industrial decay and the grim history of mining disasters.

In conclusion, although the Germans have often been compared to the genre’s greats such as Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, or Decapitated, they have always had an unmistakable sound of their own! On Perpetual, the band delivers a modern, raw, direct, and bone-crushing production while successfully avoiding modern overproduction to maintain an uncompromisingly violent delivery. This results in an atmosphere that is dark, oppressive, and heavy—channeling the gritty industrial energy of their home region of the Ruhr Area.

Perpetual is brutality at its best! It marks the long-awaited return of the mighty Resurrected. Fans of brutal and thrashy death metal who are already familiar with their previous releases will surely like this one too. Meanwhile, Perpetual can also serve as a great introduction to this mighty German veteran band for younger worshippers of the genre. I know that I’m thrilled to see Resurrected back. This is a band that didn’t grow old—they just got even better!
