Kingsphere was established in early 2021 in southern Poland. The band from Rybnik released their self-titled debut in January 2021. The following year they released a follow-up titled Enigmatic. Now, four years after the release of their sophomore full-length, the Polish quintet releases their third album, Inertia.

Having no previous knowledge of the band I began listening to all their discography, in order to compare this latest 13-tracker (including the cover of Trivum, “The Heart From Your Hate”) to its two forerunners. First surprise comes as the opening tones of “Archetype” begins with untraditional soft and melodic opening, before the hell breaks loose on the following track. So what can you expect from the rest of the album? The sound that is uncompromising, yet infectious, combining melodic death metal influences, technical precision, and modern production which highlight the band’s focus on speed and catchiness!

In my opinion, the key songs on Inertia are the aforementioned opener “Archetype”, “Illusionist”, “Rage-Revenge” and “The Cursed Epitaph”. Something all these songs have in common is that they combine heaviness, speed and catchiness with modern production and a distinctive artistic identity. Thus, it features razor-sharp guitars with relentless riffs, anthemic choruses and a strong melodic hooks, punchy bass (often acting as the sonic glue which allows heavily down-tuned guitars and fast drumming to coexist without sounding muddy), thunderous and fast drums, and powerful/expressive and emotive vocals. Finally, one can notice numerous refined electronic layers.

Talking of production – it sounds modern and polished sound which highlights every detail. The cover artwork was created by Seeg Design (known for work with Metal Commando Fest, Patriarkh, UKĆ). The atmosphere focus on creating an immersive, dreamy and haunting soundscape, with ambient textures and cathartic melodies.

After three spins, I must say that Inertia is the most mature, heaviest and most uncompromising release to date album from Kingsphere. Inertia captures the band at their most confident, intense and artistically mature stage. With the release of Inertia, the experienced and skilled quintet from Rybnik, continues to prove that modern metal can be both aggressive and melodic while remaining fresh, innovative and interesting.

Recommended for fans of modern metalcore and melodic death metal and bands such as Trivium, Architects, Scar Symmetry, All That Remains, The Browning, Born of Osiris, Spiritbox etc. Further release details can be found at their bandcamp page.
