    Inhuman Condition – Mind Trap - 76%

Founded in the fall of 2020, Florida’s Inhuman Condition consists of Jeramie Kling (Overkill, ex-Venom Inc, ex-Massacre), Taylor Nordberg (Deicide, Umbilicus, ex-Massacre), and Terry Butler (Obituary, ex-Death/Six Feet Under/Massacre).

Prior to the release of their latest nine tracker Mind Trap, the band has released two full length album and one EP. Mind Trap is very the explosive material of their well-established Flordia sound, bringing about a very coherent, well-written and perfectly produced (by themselves in their own studio) collection of following nine tracks:

1. Severely Lifeless

2. Face For Later

3. GodShip

4. The Betterment Plan

5. Mind | Tool | Weapon

6. Chaos Engine

7. Recollections Of The Future

8. Obscurer

9. Science Of Discontent

Released via High Roller Records in June 2025, Mind Trap is a relatively short album, even for death metal standards. It clocks at just over 31 minutes, thus it has no unnecessary filler parts. In other words; listening to Mind Trap feels as frightening experience, as a freight train heading straight for you and you can’t do anything to get away. Even the lyrical content is frightening; some of them dealing with the ‘crushing grip of technology on our species’, and other subjects releated to blood, guts, serial killers, sci-fi horror and ‘shitty humans’.

Mind Trap is entirely full speed nerve-shredding sonic attack with raw, groovy and chugging guitars with few diving solos. Furthermore it features some fat, low and warm basslines, tight, sick and pummeling drumming, and finally the best part; harsh, throaty and manic vocals that somehow are still very listenable and enjoyable. Some of the songs has plenty of additional thrash metal vibes especially with the guitar riffing, and result is outstanding. After three spins I still can’t pick my favourite track as all songs are equally infectious, brutally heavy and with a super hard edge.

Mind Trap is not ground-breaking or inventing anything new, but it definitely shows that the band has found its own identity. Everything on it sound nostalgic and comfortable, as you would expect from an old-school Floridian style death metal. Mind Trap is graced with another striking and badass album cover art from Dan Goldsworthy (Accept, Alestorm)!

Ultimately; Mind Trap gives those wonderful nostalgic old-school death vibes that I can highly recommend for fans of an old-school death style and bands such as Massacre, Cannibal Corpse, Undeath, Obituary, Frozen Soul, Six Feet Under, Unleashed, Jungle Rot, Benediction etc.
