Disturbing The Cenotaph, released through Pulverised Records, has been mixed by Håkan Stuvemark (Wombbath) and capped with Felipe Mora’s grotesque artwork. The album opens with another tribute to director Lucio Fulci in one of the albums most lethal salvo called “New York Ripper”. Then follows a few totally fictional track like “Coffin Colony”, while “Island of the Dead” which is more of a real old-school death banger. “Depraved Unspeakable Acts” is an instrumental track of uncompromising and guttural death metal, contributing to the album’s overall horror-inspired atmosphere. The following mid-album banger titled “Massive Cadaver Resurrection,” has this late-era Carcass vibe filled with a nice groove, some melody and and varied vocals. Then we have tracks like “Undead Apocalypse” that channels Night of the Living Dead’s shambling hordes, while “Burial Disturbance” revives The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s delivering a frantic and chilling chainsaw riffing and a whole whirlwind of blastbeats. “Phantom Intrusions” is offering a bevy of mid-paced Rogga riffs, very much similar to the aforementioned “Island of the Dead” and reminiscent of the likes of Six Feet Under or Bone Gnawer. The closing “Lunatic Butcher” is inspired by real-life events or, in that case, by the antics and vicious killings of Paul John Knowles, dubbed ‘The Casanova Killer’.
In summary; Disturbing The Cenotaph is one raw, in-your-face and nine songs packed death-metal-to-the-core album ready to chill you to the bone! The overall sound is broad and impious and as such this record is essential for fans of Repulsion, Ripping Corpse, Six Feet Under, Gorefest, Carcass, Bone Gnawer & other old-school death metal!
