Grim Justice – Live at Szene Wien

Grim Justice are a heavy metal band from Austria who have been active since 2010. The band, comprised of Michela Vignoli (guitars & vocals), Thomas Strohmayer (guitars), Vincent Weber (drums), and Robert Hafner (bass), have released three studio albums and are now a prominent figure on the Viennese heavy metal scene.

On July 11th, 2026, the quartet released their live EP entitled Live at Szene Wien via Running Wild Productions. The release captures their 15th-anniversary concert recorded live on September 6, 2025, at the legendary “Szene Wien” venue in Vienna. The CD version of Live at Szene Wien (limited to 150 signed copies) features two sections: the first contains five audio tracks, while the second contains bonus content featuring videos for those same tracks.

The EP starts off with an emotional intro to the longest track here, “This Dark Soul of Mine.” Featuring harmonic guitar notes, it is a deeply personal, Iron Maiden-inspired traditional heavy metal anthem that lays a great foundation for a live EP. Next follows my favorite song from the EP, “Hungry Wolves” (watch the video below), delivered at a heavy pace and accompanied by an amazing vocal performance. Written by frontwoman Michela Vignoli, “Curse of the Moon” features raw energy, an amazing and catchy rhythm section, and classic headbanging appeal. The track serves as a standout single that perfectly bridges the gap between traditional ’80s heavy metal and ’70s hard rock. “Holy Sword” showcases the band’s raw, traditional roots with an aggressive, high-energy performance. This is particularly true for the drums, which deliver some of the tightest and most effective work on the entire live release, serving as the heavy, pulsing core of the track’s rhythm section. The last song on Live at Szene Wien is a straight-up track called “Lady Death.” It features repetitive riffs and “diabolical” vocals that create a vengeful energy, serving as a nice closer to this live recording.

The cover art for Live at Szene Wien was created by Michela Vignoli alongside artist Claudia Schweinzer, while the production was mastered by Horst Pfaffelmayer. The mastering preserves the organic atmosphere of a live performance, delivering a sound characterized by a raw, unpolished, and straight-from-the-mixing-board sonic experience. The mix delivers a thunderous bass and drum foundation, while lead guitarist Tom’s performance is defined by sharp, piercing solos and classic ’80s-inspired riffs. Finally, frontwoman Michela’s powerful vocals are placed front and center, maintaining an intense, haunting presence with unedited screams and melodic, melancholic undertones.
