Ghörnt is a Switzerland- based modern take on the Black Metal genre (musically) that at the same time are delving into the occult past lyrically – And quite on the nose in regards to Bluetgraf, their third full-length release since their inception back in 2020. Apparently, the name of the band translated into ‘Bloody Grave’, a very apt title considering how each of the seven tracks revolve around specific vampires or stories of said supernatural entity. And while I do recall the Black Metal-esque sound of Cradle Of Filth back when they coined the term ‘Vampire Metal’, I could see the moniker apply here as well.
Both musicians are clearly very talented artists, with J, the one in charge of all instruments, having a hand in seventeen other projects in some way, shape or form; Including Asgard, where he seems to have recruited Thulus, the lead singer from in order to perform the same duties in this off-shot. And I am glad they decided to pursue this passion project, since Bluetgraf contains thirty minutes of no-nonsense Black Metal that is powerful in its simplicity, earnest in its homages and all its own; Blastbeats, melodic rhythms and (proverbially) blood-soaked throats delivering intense guttural growls ringing off the (equally proverbial) haunted hills surrounding them.
My only real critique would be the length of the record; While I do agree that thirty minutes is an acceptable length for a Full-length, I fondly remember the days when a new Black Metal release easily ran into the mid- to late forties, minutes-wise. And what is this entire writ if not a boiled down version of my opinion?
Overall however a solid entry from what appears to be a very solid act – Recommended for fans of Asgard, Marduk, Belphegor and Daark Funeral.
