Daemonium Regni – Daemonium Regni

Released on April 17, 2026 through Darkness Shall Rise Productions, Daemonium Regni is a self-titled debut album by a Swedish solo project from Sundsvall. Daemonium Regni is entirely crafted by seasoned musician Mickael Broberg, of Unanimated and various bands and projects.

The best way to present this debut in only a few words is to call it: ominous, sombre and foreboding! From the very first moments of the opening song “Mater Daemonium” the album moves at a deliberate, almost suffocating pace. This opener masterfully sets the ceremonial, dark tone of the record.

The 8-track, 44-minute record operates like a dark liturgy; featuring sweeping guitar work, Latin chanting vocals (all lyrics are sung exclusively in Latin) and when paired with the haunting lead melodies, and the intelligent complimentary drumming, it creates a great listening experience. It’s especially his exclusive use of Latin lyrics that amplifies this effect of taking a part in a liturgy, by transforming his voice into an instrument of ritual rather than a narrative. In other words; I enjoyed the contrast between Broberg’s harsh/demonic growls and somber/liturgical chanting.

Songs such as “Luna Sanguinea” perfectly blend blistering and old-school black metal sonority with crawling doom elements. At times we hear a few bursts of chaos, but without conventional climaxes. Another, almost equally strong song is “Magica Cultus”, featuring amazing guitar work, and one of the most mesmerizing riff constructions on the entire album. Last but not least, we have the grandiose finale to the album, a song called “Damnationem”. This track alone encapsulates the project’s blend of melodic black metal and crawling doom metal.

Daemonium Regni has been mastered by Dan Swanö at ‘Unisound Studios’, resulting in a professional and punchy sound. Dan Swanö’s mastering ensures that the multi-layered, slow-crawling doom riffs and black metal element sounds exceptionally transparent and weighty rather than muddy. A striking visual layout created by the acclaimed Italian artist and designer – Daniele Valeriani (Mysticum, Mayhem, Triumph Of Death, Unanimated etc.). It perfectly mirrors the liturgical, dark, and ceremonal nature of this album.

The record is dense, minimal, ceremonial, demonic, dark, intriguing, and complex record with a suffocating atmosphere, and as such needs a couple of additional spins before settling in. Daemonium Regni is not the best record in the genre, but it’s quite original and innovative, as there is no idol worship here, just the creation of a whole new identity that stands on its own creative merits.

In Conclusion, the eight-tracker Daemonium Regni is definitely a very solid debut effort, where especially fans of heavy, doom, and atmospheric black metal, might take note. Absolutely worth checking out – Let the Demons enter!
