I.ve always thought why all black metal bands paint their faces in black and white? Does it have some kind of ritual or what? Very fasinating by the way .
hard to tell, you should know answer to this one better than I do, cause you've stadied many artciles and texts on black metal... I guess it is their way of saying fuck you to the society and mainstream music... Maybe like a Slipknot or even to go back in history KISS, started off by one band and later one took over by others... maybe they wanted to show that every person has this dark and bright side, no one is completely evil nor good.... Good vs. evil are only abstract terms from holy books ex. Bible, it is not something that black metal musicians accept in wider terms. Now I am bullshitting, don't I? To be honest I don't know the real answer, who does?
hehehe...interesting thinking...hehe:Dblack metalheads o the corpsepaint..well..the name tell everything..to look like a corpse!...hehe:D kidding..actually..im in black metal since i was 9 and i dont know the real answer on this one...everybody tells something else...hehe:D
That's the way of showing to others the monster inside of each musician/person. When you play/listen BM you're invaded by dark and evil feelings, corps-paint is the way to get more involved on that darkness... i think...
Could be that it's just a visual feature that works well with the style of music, a way to get noticed. I don't believe there are deep, philosophic issues behind it, it's a gimmick.
I guess paint means something else for each person...for me it is just a part of black metal like blood and guts is for grind and gore and soo on...we have paint they have blood...we have high screams they have low growling..:D
You should check also Elegy Records site!it is awesome! And Wolf Lair radio..you can find a shitload of new things about BM there! www.elegyrecords.com www.wolflairradio.com
Its because you have to keep up a grim appearance.. When I spoke to Nergal from Behemoth i asked him and he told that it was part of his Nergal character... That he has to look evil and gruesome and thus the paint..
nergal looks grim and evil with or without paint if you ask me...it depends on how you perform..i dont think paint has anything to do with his acting on stage...S but it surely does help you with it..i guess..:D anyway.nergal and behemoth rocks!:D Oh kasper...i got you email for immortal manager..finally!it took a while but i did it..so if you want i can send it to you right away:)
