No matter what genre you prefer, just let me know what is the best metal album in 2008 in your opinion and why?
For me, it is Origin & Amon Amarth, two real kick-ass albums, while of prominent names the best release has Kreator and Destruction stood for. Biggest come-back; AC/DC, strong as ever.
AZAGHAL -Omega. Because I said so!ahah:D kidding it is just the best release for me this year...hard to explain why since its not thir best release..but..year 2008 wasnt really good for black metal releases..most of them sucked balls..so..Azaghal for me is the best from them. This release makes me hyperactive and trust me its hard to get depressed person to be hyperactive. Makes me wanna jump outside and slaughterpeople meanwhile Im jumping!*evil face* :D
It's always so hard to name THE best album, but for me it's perhaps GNR. Yeah, Yeah call me what you want, but if you are one of those 1%of the reviewers who actually wrote a review about the album itself and not about: 17 years, Axl being a prick, the fact that the other guys are not part of it, instruments, and the fact that it's not AFD, then I respect you, like the album or not, I have never read so many BAD reviews of an album...BAD not being negative, but BAD being BAD. Anyway it comes nowhere close to AFD ot UYI, but it's a great album for me
Zoka; I can agree with you so far that it is not a bad album, but again I tend to compare it with AFD which for me is one of the best metalalbums ever. Sorry, it is still GnR album and it is only fair to compare it with their previous work. If Axl wanted to avoid it, then he should have never named his new project for GnR. Anyway, this album tends to grow up on me, and I'mstarting to like it myself. But I would NEVER call it a metal album, it is pure, catchy, melodic American rock...
Of course it should be compared with all of the other GNR releases. I did that too. But when that is done the focus should be on music and not all the other media stuff. As for the genres...I don't want to get into that. For me this is album of the year...metal, pop, rap or whatever
Ok, I guess we agree on the first part 100% but on the second, for me it does matter the genre. I mean it doesn't matter if its prog/power/death/black/thrash etc. as long as it is hard rock/metal, but I simply can't suggest genres such as pop, rap, hiphop. techno etc. Nevertheless, I tried also to be as objective as possible while writing that review... I could have written hundreds of pages stabbing Axl Rose, but I kept it on an absolute minimum... again; taste in music is like taste in ladies, it will always depend on the eyes/ears in this case, of the viewer/listener :)
Yes. You are right about that. And in my list for top 10 albums of 2008 here on MR I have only listed bands that are kome kind og metal, rock og something like that, but has it been list of the best albums of this year then Portishead's 3 would be NR1 or NR.2
