While searching on myspace.com for metal bands as I usually do, I was contacted by AnastasiS because they wanted me to hear their music and in order to make a little promotion for their activities in Denmark. So being very responsible guy and editor, I decided to fulfil their wishes. First part of it is here, in depth interview with all four guys who’re making AnastasiS unit.
MR: Being an underground metal webzine, we usually start off each interview with an introduction of each band – current line-up and something about the very beginnings of the band. So the same will go for you. Please start… Dimitar: We are AnastasiS and we’re from Bulgaria. The current line-up of the band is: Dimitar – vocals, guitars; Augusto – guitars; Kostadin – bass; Ilian – drums. Two years ago we’ve gathered with the idea to start band. The songs we began to write defined our style as something like death/thrash.
MR: Why did you start the band at the first place? Is it hard to play metal in Bulgaria and how strong is the scene in your Balkan country? Dimitar: We love music and we like to have fun! It is very hard because the extreme metal hardly become popular here.
MR: Who came up with the name AnastasiS and what is the exact meaning behind it? To be honest when I first read your name I though you were Greek metal band, it sounds Greek?! Kostadin: I came up with the name Stasis which means to remain static but we decided that name is not appropriate. Later we chose AnastasiS which means resurrection and yes, the word is Greek.
MR: What have you recorded so far, how many songs do you have? Augusto: We have recorded a demo with four songs, but we have four more unrecorded songs.
MR: What is the main subject in your lyrics and where do you find inspiration when writing lyrics/music?Dimitar: There is no main subject in our lyrics. Augusto: … every song has a life of its own and own subject. Ilian: … we find inspiration in human soul and behaviour.
MR: Who are then your all time favourite bands? What do you each listen to at home? Ilian: Heavy f***ing metaaaaal! But, I play death metal!Augusto: Vader, Behemoth, Queen, Los Lobos.Kostadin: I am listening Death, Thrash and Black metal bands and I always search for new young bands to listen cause you never now who will be the new stage master.Dimitar:Metallica, Hypocrisy, Amorphis, Lake ofTears...
MR: Have you ever played live in front of the audience and are you friends with any other Bulgarian or international bands; I mean helping and supporting each other etc.? Kostadin: We have five concerts in underground clubs till now and this years Monsters of Rock will be our number six and first big concert. All of gigs were in the front of 90-150 people which is normal for Bulgarian extreme scene. Augusto: We have many friends here. Big names like Eufobia, Hyperborea and not so big like Atephobia, Intestination, InXile, Chainsoul etc.
MR: Cool. What is the best thing about live performance? Contact with the audience or…? Ilian: Like every band we want to become popular but not for money and chicks but for making audience sweat and wild… Augusto: We do not have contract with any label, yet!
MR: What are your future plans? Are you in touch with any labels? Maybe recording a first full-length or…?Kostadin: Our future plans are to do the same we’ve done till now. To become better and better and to make audience more sweat and more wild.
MR: Please feel free to say last words to close this interview up. AnastasiS: Thank you and all that are interested of our music and keep f***ing death metal alive! And crowd says:” Let there be Death metal”…
