A few months ago here at these pages we’ve presented you with the work of one of the craziest and most unique guitar players from Italy. His name is Emiliano Sicilia (doesn’t get more Italian than this, right?!). If you thought back then that he sounds interesting and that he’s creating great music, now we give you the chance to find out a few more information about his current work, biography, future plans, life in Italy etc.
MR: Ciao Emiliano, please introduce yourself for the readers of metal-revolution.com Emiliano: Hi everybody, my name is Emiliano and I hope you like my music! MR: What’s your discography so far? Have you released anything else beside Devotion Materialize which we’ve reviewed here on these pages? Emiliano:Devotion Materialize is my first album, now I’m recording a new cd but I think that I’ll change totally kind of music…now’s time to Psycho Trip Hop!
MR: How would you describe your sound? I mean you’re not playing typical metal music as I can hear elements of both nu-metal, hard rock, western, country, heavy metal etc. Emiliano: Yeah, in Devotion Materialize you can find a different styles of music because I love every kind of music! I don’t like to play only one style!
MR: Have you ever played alone? Don’t you want to form a band? Emiliano: Mmmm…I don’t know, probably for the next album, but for Devotion Materialize I think I’ll play live alone with minidisk because it’s simple and the sound is perfect in general.
MR: What does guitar means to you? How often to you practise and when did you begun playing? Emiliano: My guitar is my life! I play guitar 3 hours every day! I started with classical and flamenco, then I discovered electric guitar and I learned different kinds of playin’ because I like to play everything…
MR: What are you biggest influences when beginning to play back in time? Emiliano: The great guitarists in general like Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, Dave Celentano, then rock heavy metal and extreme metal.
MR: You’ve been compared to the likes of Rammstein, Steve Vai, Meshuggah and Slipknot, very diverse one must say. What do you think of these comparisons? Emiliano: Yes I’m glad of this, but I hope to be considered such an artist with his personal sound in the future.
MR: Do you perform live? Emiliano: Rarely because it’s so difficult to play live here in Italy, I hope to find an important booking agency for me!
MR: What are the fans and the audience like otherwise in Italy? Emiliano: The fans are so important for the musicians, I hope to have them much more with my second release!
MR: When creating music do you try to create something original and unique by a purpose? I mean, how do you make sure that your record doesn’t sound too much like other artists? Emiliano: Yeah, I know what u mean, it’s difficult to be an original artist today... but I know that I can be unique with my music! MR: Do you have a support of family and friends and do you have a regular job as I know you’re not able to live from your music? Emiliano: Oh no! I work like a normal person! It’s rarely to be able to live only with music in Italy!
MR: Being an Italian I must ask you, what is your favourite food? Pizza, lasagne, macaroni or something else? Emiliano: (Laughing) Pizza, every day!
MR: What are you future plans? Are you in the process of recording a new material or..? Emiliano: Yeah, as I told you before, I’m recording a new album at this moment (I think it will be released in 2008), and I’ve changed totally style of compositions because I like to test myself in this way.
MR: Btw. wanted to ask you if you were satisfied with great number of responses you got from the international press on your latest opus Devotion Materialize? Emiliano: Yeah I’m very proud of it, I hope to have a great show for my fans in Europe!
MR: Anything you would like to add here towards the end that I have not asked you about? Any message to your Danish fans and the readers of MR webzine in general? Emiliano: Thanks everybody and remember… The new album is coming, stay tuned! MR: Thank you for this interesting interview…
