Self released, 2005
Ydin, despite of its name is not a Viking nor is it a Black metal band. Ydin is playing death metal as I like it. Silvottuna Ja Häpäistynä is their second demo release since the band was formed back in 2003. The sound on this second demo is actually very good, the production is also decent. First and foremost I like their raw sound of death metal which is neither the heaviest nor the fastest piece of death metal I’ve ever heard of, but still it sure isn’t melodic either. On these five tracks there’re some very interesting passages, but the writing skills and lyrical contest I can’t really say anything about because as far as I understand all of the lyrics are sung in their native Finnish language. Despite of the fact that it is death metal, I hear some thrash and black elements as well here and there, making it even a bigger pleasure to listen to. But when it comes to originality, I must say that I don’t consider Ydin to be at the top of my list, but it is not the problem at all. Ydin have definitely proved that the band is capable of creating decent death metal and I’m looking very much forward to hear another, maybe a full-length, opus from these five Finnish metallers. If you’re into violent, cold and deadly music I can recommend you this cd. For more information about Ydin and their latest release please visit www.ydinband.com
