Whoever said Swedish death metal was dead or became mainstream can suck my big cock. Nominon are the big proof that death metal in this Nordic country is still alive and maybe as strong as ever. The band has existed since far 1993 meanwhile never changing so much, always staying true to their roots, but still managing to develop their sound. Remnants of a Diabolical History is a collection of their unreleased songs, promo tracks and tracks from their 7´ releases for the last 8 years. The music on this particular cd is still raw, mean and dirty. The most obvious comparisons in this connection are those with Dismember, early Entombed and even Voivod whom they covered in one track. Actually in some moments they remind me a bit of Whiplash and Repulsion as well. The sound is just exactly as it should be on this kind of release; oldschool violent and ruthless death metal, period. I find Remnants of a Diabolical History to be a very good compilation that is supposed to satisfy all the fans of the oldschool Swedish death metal. www.pulverised.net or www.nominon.com
