Audiglobe/Nadir Music, November 2011
Aeternal Seprium is Italian (Lombardia) Folk & Power metal quintet formed some years ago. Against Oblivion’s Shade is their debut release containing 10 wonderful songs, recorded at Nadir Music Studios in Genoa.
Their sound varies in both quality and tempo. While some of the songs are slow and almost fairytale storytelling, others are up-tempo and with lots of power and anger, esp. exemplified in a song called ”In Sign Of Brenno” etc. I particularly enjoyed in the harsh and straight-up vocals of Mr. Stefano Silvestrini, delivered with much conviction and confidence that one can only admire. Song-writing is equally mature while the lyrical content is relatively original, having in mind the amount of similar releases spit out in later years. Some of the songs are in their native Italian, while majority is delivered in decent English.
It is esp. Italy that somehow has specialized in this kind of releases, but Aeternal Seprium is one of the best to come out of this beautiful country. Having said above that their sound is a blend of Power & Folk metal I maybe owe here a minor correction, as one while listening carefully, can hear many additional classic Heavy Metal, Thrash, Epic and Prog sounds. It harmoniously merges into lyric poems, all based on past Italian history, telling unknown stories dealing with neglected heroes and extinct peoples whose actions left an indelible mark in the history of Italian country.
The band is obviously influenced by the likes of Blind Guardian, Manowar, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Rage, Virgin Steele and similar power & heavy metal giants. Still interested? Then visit their website at: http://www.myspace.com/aeternalseprium
