Coroner Records, 12th March 2012
Founded in 2005 Fomento is an Italian Thrash & Death Core quartet that has been shaping its own wound and style. The band released its demo Welcome To The Brotherhood (2007) and their debut album Either Caesars Or Nothing (2009). Now, they release their second full-length entitled To Persevere Is Diabolical.
To Persevere Is Diabolical consists of 12 tracks where one can feel a slightly different musical approach than the case was with their debut Either Chaos Or Nothing. Where debut was more into punk and hardcore, this sophomore release is more into thrash and death. Nevertheless, each song, from the very first furious single “The Skeleton Coast” to the crushing “Devil’s Trill” takes a listener by surprise and slams you in the balls with punishing riffs and brutal & sharp drum assaults.
Their sound has groove and bite and I adore them for that. However, the main problem is the lack of abilities to write a memorable songs & lyrics. In other words; it is highly predictable and offers a very little new and refreshing. The same can be said of vocals, delivered by Marco Krasinski. There’s no usual guttering vocals and only with a mid-range occasional growls and screams. It is also obvious that English is not his native language as one can hear his strong Italian accent.
Depending on what one is looking for in a metal album of this kind; To Persevere is Diabolical is a metal album that is brutal and catchy, yet with some fall-outs. Recommended for fans of Hatebreed, Pantera, Machine Head, All Shall Perish and other groove death & thrash acts.
