The English metal band Story Of Jade has been around since 2002.The band represant the black darkness with lots of blood, passion and sacrifice. SOJ tells us the story of their new album title The Damned Next Door, their lyrical influences, music influences and other interseting topics. Here you have the change to read more about the band´s past, present and furture.
MR: Hello Story Of Jade (SOJ). Can you please tell the readers of Metal Revolution a short introduction of your mighty band? YNNDY Thanks for "mighty"! (Laughing) Anyway, we are formed in 2002 as a "study group" and "became a band" in a couple of years. then we've recorded a demo, then another, did gigs and gigs, then signed contracts, recorded the album. more gigs and gigs. That was short!
MR: Who came up with the band name, and is there any secret/meaning behind it? YNDY: The name come from our "mascot" Jade who's a narrator and character of her own horrible, creepy and full of black humor stories. She's basically a female version of Uncle Creepy the character/narrator of the comic books "Creepy". Story of Jade was the title of the very first song we've composed so nobody really came up with a band name.
MR: If you should describe in three words what represents SOJ? What should it be and why? YNDY: Passion, perseverance and... Blood, of course! Story Of Jade is a big part of our lives, it takes time, constancy and... Sacrifice, sometimes... Yet, it gives a lot of satisfaction as well, especially live! Story Of Jade is also a way to face fears and have fun with them
MR: Now something about the reason for this interview; please introduce your new album The Damned Next Door? YNDY:The Damned next door is our first full length album, it's made of steel, blood, sweat and lots of black humour. Mostly it's made of endless passion in what we live for: Heavy Metal!
MR: Do you have any favorite songs from The Damned Next Door? YNDY: Well, I can give you my personal opinion (Yndy T. Witch, drummer), I love all the songs in the album but the ones I love a little more to play live are "C.F Virus S.0.1.", "Self-Inflicted masterpiece" and "N.W.I".
MR: How about the recording process? How long did it take to mix and record the album and who was responsible for the production? YNDY: The recording process wasn't that long, but we spent a fuckin month mixing it 'cause the guy wasn't into metal at all. but we were there 24h and with the precious help of the producer Carlo Bellotti we did it!
MR: What are some of the topics you deal with lyrically for Story Of Jade? Childhood, fear or even illness, these are just some of the topics I hear you deal with?! YNDY The lyrics are written by Bapho and me. Personally, I get inspired by a lot of things 'cause almost everything can be transformed into a horror situation! The idea for the "Lulladie" lyrics comes from a cartoon for children, for example, "C.F. Virus S.0.1" was inspired by the scenario of fear built by the medias about the H1N1 virus, "H.M.K.M" is about the Metal brotherhood, and so on. Oh... even mosquitoes! Bapho, actually, is been inspired by those hellish insects to write "Bloodsuckers" (try to turn up the volume at the end of the song and hear evil itself).
MR: You're signed to Wormholedeath/Dreamcell11, right? Are you pleased with the kind of support these guys are offering you? YNDY: Totally! Worm Hole Death is doing a great job with us.
MR: How does a SOJ song come together? Do you first write the lyrics or the music? YNDY: We use to compose our songs individually, me, Bapho or A.G. When the song is "claimed to be kicking asses" for us all, we start to refine and arrange it supervised by the producer. The lyrics come after the music, usually.
MR: What were some of your musical influences while growing up, and did it ever change? YNDY: As a band, we always had the same influences we still have; we only change the way to mix them up! We've got a lot of different influences in the band but I don't know what the other guys were listening growing up. (Laughing) I started to listen to Heavy Metal back in 1990, hypnotized by the sound of the Bay Area and by the NWOBHM as well. In adolescence I was really into punk and hard core music singing and playing guitar in several bands. By the way, Metal was always there, I just stopped playin' metal for a while but never stopped to listen and love it. As a band, we always had the same influences we still have; we only change the way to mix them up!
MR: What's been your proudest accomplishment so far as a member of SOJ? YNDY: We've played a lot of gigs, we've got an official release, we are proud endorsers of our gear, but the thing that make us really proud above all, is that we've never made compromises with no one and never gave a single cent to anyone to make the little (or big, it depends...) things we've made. I mean, there's a lot of sharks out there calling them self "booking agency" or "management" that ask for monthly fees and stuff like that to the underground bands, doing nothing to promote them. The guys we work with believe in the band as we do and this is a great thing, nowadays
MR: Where do you see your band in five years from now? What are some of the goals and ambitions you as a band still have? YNDY: We always try to split dreams from ambitions. We want to play more gigs around Europe and we really want to kick more asses with the 2nd record... so I hope we'll be touring a lot in the next five years.
MR: What was the reaction of fans and media been towards your new opus yet? YNDY: Even better than we expected to be... great!!! About that... Thanks to every S.O.J. supporter, from the press to metalheads.
MR: Do you care at all what your fans might think of your music? How important is it for you to stay in touch and connected to them? YNDY: C'mon....! We are fan of Metal before being musicians... so, what can I tell you?! Of course the opinion of fans is important! The crowd, the fans are the heart of a scene and you know, zombies love hearts. (Laughing)
MR: What's the coolest place/attraction/country you've been able to visit while on tour over the years? YNDY: Every venue, club or festival you go, you live different and unique experiences that makes you feel great in different ways. so every place we've visited and every person we've met, got a special place in our memories.
MR: Are you playing any gigs in support of your new album? YNDY: We've played around 30 dates during the "Damned Next Door tour" and about now we're starting to write new stuff, but we'll be soon back on stage.
MR: Thanks for your time, it was nice talking to you and present your band for a Danish legion of fans. YNDY: Thank you guys, and thanks to the Danish legion of fans. Follow us on www.storyofjade.net and keep on supporting fuckin' metal underground!
