Anthriel's The Pathway is an album with its own distinctive style; a mix of so many styles that it rather than seeming pompous or without an identity of its own, creates an album that IS its own identity. Pathway is the kind of album I would use to get my friends more into metal as it lingers on the veil between metal and everything else (the more mundane mainstream pop and so on, obviously.) It never fully goes across but it always has its roots firmly planted in metal.
"Guardian," "Heaven Of Grace" and "The Deliverance" are songs that I strongly recommend on the album, while the truth is that one should not be valued higher than the other; the album is a tale, a story of a man searching for his place in the world. "...that ultimately lead to the discovery of perfect harmony from within his own soul," as quoted by guitarist Timo Niemistö when asked about the album.
The high score given to this album is a reflection of the ultimate result: beautiful and telling cover art, music made with a passion and a production that leaves nothing wanting. One never grows tired of the story, the album easily listened to time and time over.
