BadMoodMan/Solitude Productions, 2010
BadManMood Music, a sub-label of a Russian-based Solitude Productions, have specialized in releasing a whole bunch of different, unique and rare bands esp. from the countries of former Soviet Empire.
However, Helevorn is a bit different band with different attitude. They are coming from Spain and playing this very common blend of Doom/Gothic/Death Metal. Stylistically we’ve heard it all before and in that sense there’s a very little new. Still, Helevorn is much more melodic than many of other bands playing this kind of music, where esp. vocals are very clean and one can sing-a-long. To times the voice of their singer/front man becomes darker, lower and melancholic, but all in all it is very catchy, melodic and understandable. When it comes to the riffing; I would argue it is slow and quite acceptable. Same goes for the rest of instruments and I think that those are the biggest strengths of this Spanish group.
Anyone into European-style Gothic/Death metal and bands as Novembre, Opeth, Katatonia, My Dying Bride or Paradise Lost would love this record. Helevorn even participated on a December Songs - A Tribute to Katatonia with a song called “12” telling me what their main inspirations are coming from.
