Jack Slater is a name that I would never relate to death metal, but rather to prog/classical/power metal. Nevertheless, Jack Slater is exactly a death metal outfit, one of the finest to come out of Germany. The band has been around for fifteen years now and Extinction Aftermath is their fourth record. The fact is that I was not familiar with this combo before, so it is impossible to compare this new 10-tracker to any of their previous material. What I can tell you is that this shit sounds very fresh and vibrant. Their music is carried by more or less brilliant yet brutal sound. The vocals vary a great deal, but most of the time it is acceptable and decent delivering some shouting, growling and high-pitched singing.
Extinction Aftermath is a versatile album where every song presents another facet of their sound universe. In other words; it is a very strong and intense death metal release with main focus on the technical side. There’s something for everyone; no matter if you’re looking for brutality, grooviness, technicality, catchiness or complex rhythms and song-structures – it is all to be found here.
This shit is enjoyable and fresh sounding and I can highly recommend it for any fan of the Technical Death metal and bands such as Decapitated, Cynic, Toxic Death, Gorguts, Vader, Behemoth and similar acts. For more info visit: www.jack-slater.de
