Self-released, 2009
Brazilian five-piece band Dynahead is definitely something special, and for the first time I would have to agree with the notes written in the press material – this band takes underground metal to a completely new level and new heights.
During the late 80s and 90s this large south-American country has delivered few very innovative and groundbreaking bands such as Sarcofago, Angra, Torture Squad and, of course, mighty Sepultura. But, none of the above mentioned-acts have delivered such a strong debut like Dynahead. Antigen is the title of this ten-tracker debut mixing progressive influences and a furious soundscapes. In additional to this the band also incorporates solid experimental and alternative thrash elements. It sounds old-school yet with very modern production and fantastic imagery.
Dynahead is comprised of some of the well-known and experienced musicians from deepest of the Brazilian underground and it is obvious from the very first riff of the opening track “Clockwork I”, a track that starts with crunching guitars, ingenious riffs and very strong yet screaming vocals of Mr. Duarte. I simply adore this song as well as the following “Layers of Days” which is even angrier than its predecessor and finally “Bloodish Eyes” with its dark and furious atmosphere. These guys supplement each other very well.
In other words; almost every song on the album offers something new and fresh and when supported by this tremendous and modern productions, the work is completed. It leaves me wondering where time went by, asking for more.
Antigen is simply one of the best examples what metal anno 2009 also can sound like; it is emotional, solid and thrashy with pummeling riffs and growling vocals. These guys are true genius and I’m looking very much towards their next release… www.dynahead.com.br
