Rising of Yog-Sothoth: Tribute to Thergothon is the first album ever released to pay tribute to the legendary Finnish cult doom band Thergothon. This two CD set features 17 bands from various countries that have been influenced by Thergothon. All of these bands do an excellent job of covering the original versions.
Although this tribute album has two versions of each song covered by two different artists it will not disappoint. Listening to two different artists perform the same song gives you a sense of how they were influenced by Thergothon and how they interpret Thergothon's songs. Slow distant drumming, down-tuned guitars playing slow melodic riffs, and brutal heavy deep growling combine to produce an excellent funeral doom tribute album. This album will evoke negative feelings of sadness, despair, and suffering as Thergothon once did.
Overall, this album is the next best thing to Thergothon as well as a great introduction to the many doom and black metal bands out there. The production of the CD is great and the insert is a compilation of the bands involved in the making of this tribute album. This is a great add for Thergothon fans as well as funeral doom fans.
