There is much to be said about the genre ‘gothic doom metal’. Some say it’s too slow and some said that the music is too monotonous. Well, I’m the one who say that both arguments can be true esp. having in mind that a whole bunch of bands in the recent years emerged claiming that they are playing exactly this genre and whose quality can be questionable.
Escape to the Dreamland is the new album from this Russian band Evoke Thy Lords. This album consists of eleven well written & well played tracks. There are tracks like “Towards Yuggoth” which starts the song with the beautiful solos from the keyboard, and then follow by the female vocalist combined with the raw and aggressive male vocalist. There are lots of hard pumping drums which sound very good by the way. And then there are tracks like “Coming From Beyond” and “The Awakening of the Sleeping One”. Both of these tracks are more or less are filled with solos from the keyboard and flute.
There are lots of slow pace tracks and low-tuned guitars which are typically for the doom metal genre. I will absolute recommend starting with this album for people who have never heard the band’s releases before, because it’s good enough that you will want to listen to more. And I can not wait for Evoke Thy Lords next album to come as their playing skills are unquestionable.
