Self-financed, 2009
With a decade behind them Italian band Sovversivo’s self released debut album offers plenty to sink you teeth into. After a short instrumental intro band starts hits off hart with “Wild Emotions” and for the rest of the album they keep the level - of their often simple, but effective style of hard rock/metal – very high. One good song is followed by another and influences of bands such as Metallica, Accept and Skid Row are present at most times. Bands simple arrangements are very cleverly done and combined with great guitar work from Matteo Serra it’s a pleasure to follow the way they’ve built up the songs in order to make them dynamic and interesting.
This is a self-financed album and the production could be much better, which would make the album even more enjoyable, but when that’s said the production is not half bad, taking everything into consideration. The biggest minus about this album comes from the band’s singer Andrea Uboldi, not so much because of his fairly limited range, but more because of his accent and interpretation of often banal lyrics. Still the melodies are good and they do built further on the music itself in a clever way.
Wild Emotions is a very good start for the band, but there is most definitely plenty of places for improvement www.sovversivo.com
