Soundborne’ new album Hallucinations is an instrumental travelling where Mr. Dahl along with his highly experienced companions serves us 13 classic rock tracks of very high quality. Usually I’m not huge fan of this particular kind of music, yet I found myself enjoying listening to this album, so did my girlfriend and my little daughter. I guess, it summarise things very well; a piece of music that can be enjoyed by almost everyone. It is filled with numerous tempo-, tact and style changes. It reminds me of some Joe Satriani and Steve Vai releases, yet it has its classical moments much in the style of big names as Bach. The best thing that can be said about this release, beside of above mentioned clearly big experience and knowledge of how to handle all the instruments, is definitely the variety in the music. It never really gets boring; from classical over prog-rock to more heavy sounds. Esp. the classic and acoustic guitar part in track called “Re Roi Soleil” is amazing, and when you thing it is going to continue like this for the rest of the album, the guys scare a hell out of you but a very heavy and pompous intro in the next song “Chase”. It feels like being a part of a fairytale while listening to this album. It is obvious that these guys not only can play their instruments but they also know how to mix a record. Sound is just perfect without any unnecessary ups and downs. It feels like the guys from Norway have chosen a direction and they know what path to follow for the next release. This debut can only give them and us even bigger hopes and expectations for the future. More information at www.soundborne.com or their record company at www.rerouterecords.com
